Like you buy a sofa and you have it for 5 years, it's amazing, but after 5 years they come and take it away, because "the service is shutting down" and you still don't get your money back for the sofa. This is the part that bothers me the most - you buy something, but you don't really own it, you are just renting it and when it's over, they take it away. In another reply I raised the question what if Blizzard released two clients for the game? - Online one and an Offline one and each has their own characters so people can't exploit it like some here say - modifying items and files. I mean, if only Blizzard would promise something like, when Diablo 3 and 4 are about to shut down, they will release some "Server Development Kits" or whatever that will allow people to easily host their own servers or whatever. But don't you feel insulted as a potential Diablo 4 player that the game you will potentially buy and enjoy will one day have its servers shut down and it will be no longer available? You have a very good point, I can't argue with it. What are your thoughts about this, do you support the idea of online-only? I personally don't and am very against it and for this reason will not be buying Diablo 4, which really makes me unhappy. This is a new level of greed - to make it online-only, because you are so greedy you don't want pirates to play your game for free and in turn are screwing up the legitimate customers who would gladly pay for this game. This is greed that goes beyond Denuvo and how it's meaninglessly eating system resources to prevent pirates from playing for free (hackers have removed Denuvo from some games and saw 30% reduce in system usage from the game). What if 10 years later Activision-Blizzard decide that they no longer want Diablo 4 and shut the servers off and everyone who bought the game and loved it can't play anymore?ĭiablo 1 and 2 are very much playable and people keep buying them despite how old they are simply because they can play them at any given time and place. What if you go out into the mountains or someplace where you have no internet like camping or something and bring your laptop with you and you want to play some Diablo 4, but can't since there is no internet, but you still have a copy of the game? Especially considering Diablo 1 and 2 were available for offline play and it's not some kind of novelty or something that's impossible to accomplish. I would've loved to support the game and buy it when it launches, but I really don't like the idea of this "game-as-a-service" thing where as soon as the servers shut down for good, you can't play the game you bought anymore. They don't want the game to be pirated so they are making it online-only. I'm starting to think that the reason Diablo 4, like Diablo 3 is going to be online-only is not because it will improve the quality of gameplay or anything, but more because of Activision-Blizzard's greed.
